How to stop nappy leaks

Are you experiencing leaks from your nappies? We know that this can be frustrating, but we are here to help!

Nappy leaks can occur due to a number of reasons, so there is no single answer to avoiding them, but here are the main contributing factors;

  1. Time; Cloth nappies should be changed every 2-3 hours depending on your bubs output level. Keep in mind that if your baby is a heavy wetter, you may need to change more frequently or consider adding additional absorption (see below)
  1. Fit; Ensuring your nappies are fitted to baby correctly is the first step to avoiding leaks.

Our pro tips to avoiding leaks with a correct fit are;

  • Ensure your nappy is adjusted to the correct size setting and all 3 hip snaps are done up
  • No white inner suede fabric is showing, as this component is not water resistant, and will transfer moisture to clothing/bedding
  • Tuck in the leg elastics; Run your finger around the leg elastics to seat them into the groin. This step is particularly important to seal in any moisture and avoid leaks around the legs
  1. Wash routine; If your wash routine isn’t quite right, the absorbency of your inserts may be affected. We suggest that you review your wash routine against our instructions to ensure this is not a contributing factor.
  1. Absorbency; The next question we would ask you, is if you have enough absorbency in your nappy. When you remove the insert from your leaking nappy, is it;
  2. Completely soaked; from front to back, and feels wet/damp to touch

Solution; change more frequently, or add additional absorption. A booster or second insert will provide you with an added layer of protection.

  1. Partially wet; part of the insert (generally the back) is still dry

This could indicate a few things; flooding, fit issue, wash or absorbency issue.

Solution: See above to review your fit and wash routine.
